Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information TextFromAudio ("we", "us", "our") collects, how we use it and the choices you have. By using this website, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect
We keep data collection to a minimum. Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Technical information your browser sends automatically, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited and the time of the visit.
- Messages you send us, such as your name, email address and the text of your message when you use the contact form or email us.
- Pro information, if you use Pro: your Pro key (we store only a hash of it, not the key itself) and the data you submit to Pro features, described below.
We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name or email address just to use the free transcription tool.
How Your Audio and Transcripts Are Handled
Free mode. The speech recognition model runs in your browser, on your own device. The audio or video file you choose is processed there and is not uploaded to our servers. Your transcript stays in your browser until you close or clear it.
Pro. Pro features that run on our servers, such as faster and more accurate transcription, receive the file or text you submit. Files are deleted automatically once processing is finished.
Share links (Pro). If you create a share link, we store a plain-text copy of that transcript on our servers under a random link, so that anyone with the link can read it. It stays until it is deleted. Only the Pro key that created a share link can delete it.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate and maintain the website and its features
- Check Pro keys and deliver Pro features
- Reply to your messages and support requests
- Understand how the site is used and fix problems
- Keep the website secure and prevent abuse
We do not sell your personal information.
Log Files
Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure records standard log data when you visit, such as IP address, browser type, referring page, pages requested and timestamps. This information is used to run and secure the site and to diagnose errors. It is not used to identify you personally.
Cookies, Local Storage and Cached Files
We do not set cookies of our own. To work properly, the site stores a few things in your browser:
- Local storage keeps your Pro key (if you activate Pro) and your selected speech model.
- Browser storage (IndexedDB) temporarily holds the file you chose so the transcription page can open without uploading it.
- Cache storage keeps the downloaded speech models, so later transcriptions start faster.
All of this stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by clearing the site data in your browser settings.
Third-Party Services
- Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the website. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
- Model and sample file downloads. Speech models, and the sample file you can try, are downloaded from Hugging Face. When your browser fetches them, Hugging Face receives your IP address and browser details under its own privacy policy.
Third-party services have their own privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies separately. Links to other websites, such as our X profile, are covered by those sites' policies, not this one.
CCPA Privacy Rights (California Residents)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to ask what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion of your personal information and to be free from discrimination for using these rights. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, contact us at the email address below.
GDPR Data Protection Rights (EU Visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data
- Restrict or object to how we process your data
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To use any of these rights, contact us at the email address below. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children's Privacy
TextFromAudio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including HTTPS on every page, hashed storage of Pro keys and random, hard-to-guess share links. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it now and then.
